Every year from December 14th to January 5th, the official count period for the Christmas Bird Count, thousands of birders in the Americas participate in counting birds in their area, contributing to the knowledge of bird populations and trends. Please join us in this important activity which helps to further our knowledge about wintering birds on Cape Cod. Go to National Audubon’s website for more information about the Christmas Bird Counts and for results of past counts.
Several members of the Cape Cod Bird Club participate locally in this event. This is an all day event where people count every bird in an assigned count circle. Each circle is a 15 mile radius. Within each circle there are several teams assigned to certain areas.
If you would like to participate contact one of the count leaders/compilers below. You can participate for a full day or half day. You can also participate from home by counting birds at your feeders. Check with the count leaders to see if your home is within one of the count circles.
