The CCBC offers grants of up to $1000 to support conservation efforts relating directly or indirectly to the well-being or protection of birds. Due to limited funds, for 2023-24, we are again accepting applications only from proposers working in the Western Hemisphere where many of our local, Cape Cod migrants spend some part of their lives. Following the approach introduced to the club by Herb Raffaele, we welcome applications that encourage community involvement, particularly that of children, as a way of promoting bird-friendly environments. We are seeking organizations which share our goals but need seed money to begin or additional funding to continue. Applications are reviewed and funded once a year–in the Spring. Guidelines for submitting applications are available here.
This program was jump-started by a generous grant from the Handy Foundation, in memory of Ned Handy, a long-time member and supporter of the Cape Cod Bird Club. The program is sustained by the generosity of our members. Currently, we receive only enough funds to make three awards per year despite receiving many more deserving proposals. We would welcome any additional support from individuals or foundations, so that we can expand the program to include proposals from outside the Western Hemisphere, as we did in 2021-22.
Several of the projects we have funded involved gathering together people from the community, and these had to be put on hold during the Covid-19 pandemic. We look forward to these getting back on track during the coming months.
